we are the ones

in the last couple of days i have read and heard several things that are sorting themselves out in my mind. there is a saying that i first heard about a year ago. the saying is - "we are the ones we have been waiting for." whether you are familiar with this statement or just read it for the first time, i know that you know what it means. but what does it look like?

from what i can gather it looks like doing the right thing over and over. sometimes the right thing is unloading the dishwasher or taking the trash out, sometimes the right thing is silence and rest. and sometimes the right thing keeps you very busy. sometimes the right thing moves you to africa and sometimes it means renting an apartment in the suburbs of boise, idaho.

we have choices. the hard part isn't figuring out the right thing to do. we know what the right thing to do is - the hard part is choosing to do it. the hardest part is choosing to do it with a good attitude.

see, we cannot wait for the new president to take office. we cannot wait for terrorism to go away. we cannot wait for people to be kinder or more loving. we are the ones we have been waiting for. just at this moment we have arrived on the scene to do the right thing. so what is that going to look like?
